The search for the position of Director of Iowa State University Startup Factory is now underway. The successful candidate will succeed Kris Johansen, who recently stepped down from her four-year post as Startup Factory COO and six-month post as the program’s interim director effective August 17.
Reporting to the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship organization within the Office of Economic Development and Industry Relations, the Director works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development Center, to recruit appropriate program participants, grow the Startup Factory Mentor Network, and facilitate connections within the Iowa innovation ecosystem. The Director leads program operations including budgetary planning, communications, resource planning, training and engagement.
Candidates for the position must have a Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 6 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and 3 years of related experience. Preferred qualifications include entrepreneurial experience in launching and growing technology-based startup businesses or guiding entrepreneurs through the process; familiarity with higher education technology commercialization and/or startup development; leadership experience in business or program operations including: strategic planning, budgeting and financial accountability; program development experience including budget acquisition and management; experience with private fundraising and early-stage financing; and experience developing or delivering startup curriculum or programming.
